College Intern - Writing Systems Engineer

As an intern, you will be a part of the Writing Systems team to help develop methods and tools to evaluate the printhead, ink and printer system performance and reliability to deliver the right product customer experience.  The Writing Systems teams span across engineering disciplines to ensure that the printer design implemented will be effective from a customer perspective.  This includes tool development, test beds support and development, data analysis, partnering across the print ecosystem to problem solving and provide team leadership skills.  

Responsibilities

  • To understand the fundamentals of a product/process design, create tests that would discover issues, understand print quality, characterize the product, and analyze data to validate product performance.
    • Key tactics include: test setup, understanding and modifying test suites, understanding printers, understanding Inspection software, visually checking print samples, database query, data analysis, making conclusions, communicating conclusions, and driving improvements in design and manufacturing.
  • To document and transfer processes, specifications, justifications, and knowledge to our partners to assure a robust product.
  • To make judgments on product print quality and reliability with the customer in mind.
  • To partner with the design teams, printer and supplies divisions, and manufacturing to ensure robust product design, reliability, and performance.
  • To establish engineering metrics that help guide both component and system level designers.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Students currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical/Computer Engineering or Computer/Material Science.
  • Able to commit to a full time 6 Months Internship starting July or August
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of engineering fundamentals.
  • Ability to work & effectively interact with team members from other disciplines, projects, organizations, cultures & companies.
  • Resourceful, creative and flexible.
  • Skills in analytical decision-making, troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in practical experiment design and excellent knowledge of applied statistics.
  • System-level thinking, integrating firmware, scripts, software, optoelectronics, and/or servo mechanisms.
  • Interface with a broad variety of specialists to drive and coordinate solutions within the inkjet lab and across product divisions.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, work within defined policies and practices.  Determine best method for accomplishing work and achieving objectives.
  • Exhibit solid planning, organizational and documentation skills.
  • High degree of commitment and initiative.
  • Relevant knowledge in programming tools such as C/C++ or 3D CAD is an added advantage
  • Experience with new product development is desirable
  • Fluent spoken and written English
