The Print Adjacencies & 3D Lab at HP Labs in Palo Alto, CA is seeking an outstanding Research Support Engineer to join its elite 3D Printing R&D team.

Our lab includes state-of-the-art HP 3D Multi Jet Fusion equipment* with up-to-date instruments and tools to support our research. We continue to improve the Multi Jet Fusion process and materials for release in future products by testing new concepts based on further understanding of the physics and chemistry involved.

Key responsibilities of the research support engineer include planning, conducting and analyzing experiments, in collaboration and support of the researchers on our projects. Configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining mechanical systems and control software for sophisticated experimental 3D printing equipment are also important responsibilities, as well as keeping it in top operating condition, including upgrading the hardware, firmware and software as needed. The research support engineer needs to be highly skilled in operating this equipment as well as our measurement and characterization systems.  

The candidate should be a fast learner and with great hands on skills. Knowledge and interest in materials science is a plus. Prior experience of working in a research lab with direct links to technology commercialization will be a great advantage.  

    Qualifications include:

    • Bachelor Degree (Master Degree preferred) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Chemical/Materials Engineering.
    • 2-3 years’ prior experience of working in a research lab with direct links to technology commercialization.
    • Demonstrated good mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity (“hands-on”)
    • Understand, troubleshoot, repair, and run sophisticated mechanical equipment and use complex computer software devices and programs.
    • Detailed-oriented
    • Demonstrated excellence in communication skills, teamwork, organization skills, and process orientation
    • Fast learner with extreme self-drive
    • Expert level computer skills, including in-depth understanding of software usage and troubleshooting skills. Programming skills highly desired but not mandatory
