IT Engineer - Technical Solution Consultant

We are looking for a candidate with rich experience in managing enterprise platform technologies. This role is for talented individual with strong administrative skills to perform as a technical lead helping to support our data landscape of various data technologies.  Individual will join a team responsible for ensuring the continued operations of our database and big data environments.  This person will provide leadership and oversight to data operations and project activities and work with third party service providers to deliver operational services on our uptime SLAs.

Applies advanced subject matter knowledge to solve complex business issues and is regarded as a subject matter expert. Frequently contributes to the development of new ideas and methods. Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of multiple factors. Leads and/or provides expertise to functional project teams and may participate in cross-functional initiatives. Acts as an expert providing direction and guidance to process improvements and establishing policies. Frequently represents the organization to external customers/clients. Exercises significant independent judgment within broadly defined policies and practices to determine best method for accomplishing work and achieving objectives. May provide mentoring and guidance to lower level employees.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support for platform technologies for HPI's global corporate infrastructure, which is an environment with more than thousands of servers and systems across multiple locations worldwide.
  • Administrate the server hardware, operating systems, and the virtualization infrastructure.
  • Plan, coordinate and implement changes by following the IT change process.
  • Challenge and optimize any of the existing technology or process to continuously improve the capability of the team and self.
  • Work with Service provider to troubleshoot hardware and software problems with Server and Operating systems.
  • Preparing Root Cause Analysis reports in support of the ITIL process.
  • Work with Service provider to Develop and maintaining installation and configuration procedures for new server builds.
  • Assess on going Operation issues and assess/rectify architecture and hardware limitations.
  • Evaluate vendor capabilities to provide required products or services.
  • Optimize Service delivery with HPI’s third party service providers.
  • Conduct regular capacity planning exercises to account for organic growth.
  • Participates as a member of and leads development teams. Performs analysis of complex functional and business requirements. Prepares code stubs for others. Completes code to implement solutions. Designs solutions for others to code. Participates in cross-functional teams. Leads design activities May provide mentoring and guidance to other developers. Designs, prepares and executes Unit tests. Represents team to client/customers.
  • Demonstrates technical leadership, and exerts influence outside of immediate team. Develops innovative team solutions to complex problems. Contributes to strategic direction for teams.
  • Applies in-depth or broad technical knowledge to provide maintenance solutions across one or more technology areas (e.g. Database Administration).
  • Performs solution design. Applies HP and 3rd party technologies and leads design of highly complex infrastructure and software solutions.
  • Independently implements end- user or enterprise infrastructure or services of significant complexity.
  • Integrates technical expertise and business understanding to create superior solutions for HP and customers. Mentors and consults with team members and other organizations, customer and vendors on complex issues.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, MIS/CS related majors would be preferred with 10 years of industry experience.
  • At least 5 years’ experience working as a senior administrator for a multi-national company larger than 3,000 employees.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Senior level experience in relational database technologies such as: Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server.  Strong experience managing big data solutions such as Hadoop, MongoDB or Vertica.
  • Strong data management knowledge, understanding data integrity, ability to analyze data and relationships.
  • Solid experience of administrating and managing servers and systems, various flavor of Severs OS - Microsoft Windows, Linux/Unix.
  • Hands-on experience managing application in virtual and cloud-based technologies such as VMWare Hypervisor, AWS or Azure.
  • Solid knowledge of IT infrastructure concepts: LAN and TCP/IP networking, SAN/NAS storage.
  • Experience writing code (such as, and not limited to, Java, C, C++, C#, VB, .Net; databases like SQL Server/ Oracle; and Testing tools Experience of multiple full release cycles.
  • Advanced understanding of modern software development methodologies.
  • Advanced understanding of modern software development tools and SCM.
  • Advanced understanding of Software Test methodologies, and an expert in testing tools. Expert in Database Administration.
  • General Project Management. Customer/ Vendor Management. Business Analysis.
  • Advanced Web technologies. Good verbal and written communication skills; influencing skills and ability to work effectively in a geographically dispersed team. Demonstrated technical leadership skills.
  • Optimize service delivery with HPI’s third party service providers.
  • ITIL Foundation Certification or good sense of ITIL fundamentals (esp. change/configuration/incident processes).
