The Workstations division of HP (www.hp.com/workstations) is a high-performance, high-integrity, and fun organization looking for motivated and talented system validation engineers with a passion for customers, quality and of course virtual reality (VR)!  

This position is for an electrical engineer with proven design knowledge to solve complex technical issues.  The selected candidate will be part of an R&D team designing commercial VR platforms and solutions for HP customers. This position is in the Workstation Business Unit and would be responsible for designing and providing technical leadership for Commercial VR platforms.

This role will support to design current and next generation innovative VR hardware and solutions.  Critical to the success of this position is building strong relationships with worldwide colleagues and key partners in TCE/Quality, Supply Chain, VR vendors (hardware), and ODM suppliers. 

The ideal candidate will have a passion for and experience in VR technologies along with strong and proven technical leadership and validation skills.  This position is based in Fort Collins, CO.  The team is split between the US and Taipei, TWN.   

If you are our Virtual Reality Electrical Hardware Engineer, you will have a chance to

  • Designs engineering solutions for electrical and electronic parts, subsystems, integrated circuitry, and algorithms based on established engineering principles and in accordance with development technology practices and guidelines.
  • Develops and implements parameters and test plans for new and existing designs, including validation of tolerances, form/fit/function, shock and vibration, electromagnetic interference, safety, reliability, thermal generation, and system power measurements
  • Collaborates and communicates with management, internal, and outsourced development partners regarding design status, project progress, and issue resolution
  • Leads a project team of other electrical hardware engineers and internal and outsourced development partners to develop reliable, cost effective and high quality solutions for moderately-complex products.
  • Represents the electrical hardware team for all phases of larger and more- complex development projects.
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to less- experienced staff members.
  • Reviews and evaluates designs and project activities for compliance with technology and development guidelines and standards; provides tangible feedback to improve product quality
  • Engagement with R&D technologists
  • Work cross-functionally with key partners to deliver product definition meeting feature, quality and user experience goals
  • Routinely exercises independent judgment in developing criteria for achieving objectives Qualifications

Are you a high-performer? We are looking for an individual with:

  • 7+ years of professional engineering experience
  • Solid knowledge in small form factor product. Such as phone, smart watch, VR/AR etc.
  • Experience with wearable and mobile designs
  • Critical Competencies and Qualifications to Drive Business Results; designing electronic components, integrated circuitry, and algorithms
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of material properties and hardware and electrical component design.
  • Using empirical analysis, modeling and testing methodologies to validate product designs and specifications.
  • Must be able to work well as part of a high-performance R&D team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills in a large, diverse environment.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Experience managing issues of technical and logistic complexity.
  • Experience achieving results through others - such as ODM partners and regional teams.
  • Proven ability to manage time effectively and lead multiple projects simultaneously across businesses.
